About Us

Bardon Esh is a joint venture company formed by the Esh Group and Aggregate Industries.  The company is a waste management and recycling business.  It incorporates the skip hire and collection company, Tonks (Transport) Ltd.

Our skip hire business can collect waste materials from construction sites throughout most of the North East of England.  As a result, a range of waste materials is received at the company’s facility at Haverton Hill in Tees Valley.  Through a series of processes the majority is rendered suitable for re-use in a variety of construction processes.  It is then delivered to other recycling facilities or, in the case of aggregates, sold and delivered to construction sites for immediate re-use.

History

Joe Tonks formed J Tonks (Transport) Ltd in 1963 having already been active in the industry for many years.  He was joined by his son, also called Joe.

The business, based in Wingate, grew successfully for forty years before Joe Tonks (son) decided to sell the waste recycling business in 2003.

Brian Manning, acting for the Esh Group, and Geoff Parkin, acting for Aggregate Industries, decided to form a joint venture between their two companies to develop the business.  In late 2003 a deal was concluded and the Esh Group and Aggregate Industries bought J Tonks (Transport) Ltd, including its vehicles, skips and recycling facility at Haverton Hill.

Under the day-to-day management of John Dee, Bardon Esh continues to expand and now has a recycling facility at Tursdale, near to the Esh Group Head Office in Bowburn.
